GBE2 Blog On Prompt 54 “Self”

This is for GBE2 Prompt 54 “Self”

Congratulations! You now have a RENA. These directions will explain everything you need to know in order to ensure you and RENA experience mutually satisfying interactions. RENA model 2012 (semi-employed) like all previous versions is SOCIALLY INEPT with a tendency to seem DISGRUNTLED and OVERLY EMPHATIC most of the time.

CARE AND FEEDING

RENA is generally able to fend for herself. She requires at least two meals a day with the occasional snack. Overeating is not a concern though acid indigestion is a problem if she is allowed to eat before bed time. This means she should not eat at least five hours before her usual bed time or she will be up all night trying not to throw up.

Meat even if very well done will occasionally make RENA extremely ill.  The same goes for some milk products, spicy foods, certain desserts and vegetables. Since the problem is spread out over a wide range of products, no food allergy has been pinpointed. If RENA suddenly turns greenish and heads for the nearest bathroom at high speed, get out of her way and get her some ice water. Under no circumstances enter room unless requested to do so.

Favorite foods include:

  • Chinese
  • Sushi
  • Potatoes
  • Rice
  • Cheese
  • Nuts
  • Stirfried anything
  • Mushrooms
  • Deviled Eggs
  • Chicken
  • Lamb
  • Pork
  • Smoked Turkey Legs
  • Pasta
  • Onigiri
  • Fish
  • Tomatoes
  • Cheese

RENA is quite capable of staying up until five a.m. in the morning. Her usual bed time is midnight to one a.m. She requires at least five hours of sleep, though when she is depressed she can sleep for as long as ten hours or more. She is a restless sleeper who will wake up several times during the night. Various sources contend that she snores. RENA is occasionally subject to sleep paralysis and night terrors and vivid dreams where she becomes convinced that she is late for some important meeting. She has also spent several minutes after waking from a dream convinced there is some device that she needs to calibrate that’s under the bed.

RENA has allergies, bronchitis and asthma. She also has occasional tooth aches due to crooked wisdom teeth and headaches that range in severity from “never quite goes away” to “going back to bed now.” Both are regulated via over the counter drugs. RENA is not able to distinguish between an allergy or a cold except by what over the counter medications are working. Herbal remedies are generally too mild to have very much effect in the amounts suggested.

She generally prefers thyme, garlic, rosemary, ginger, lavender and other herbs as seasonings instead of medication! She is more or less indifferent to holistic or herbal remedies. RENA is sensitive to sudden changes of weather or location and may become ill. If illness is untreated, lung infections and a rattling cough may ensue. She is also subject to Epic Coldsores and sore throats that Never Go Away.

RENA does not like being touched, with or without warning. She does not like being surprised in general.

All Previous models of RENA have had vision problems. The current model has been told that the difference in prescriptions between both eyes is so great no prescription will raise her vision to 20/20. The most recent vision problem is that she cannot see very well in bright sunlight and periodically loses most of the vision in her right eye due to a bright glare or after image that eventually fades after a few months.

The current model of RENA continues to maintain a general indifference to appearance and is most comfortable in old worn clothes. The current model’s fashion sense is for a neat low maintenance look with hair that is short on the front and sides while long in the back. Make up continues to feel disgusting when applied to the face and is avoided.

Rena prefers bright (but not too bright) well lit areas in temperatures ranging between 80 to 50 degrees Fahrenheit. Breezes and drafts should be kept indirect. Ambient noise should be low and nonintrusive. Musical tastes are eclectic and lean toward punk, rock, folk, the occasional rap and the blues.

HABITS AND BEHAVIORS

RENA generally prefers quiet interactions with a limited number of people to loud interactions with a large number of people. She is by nature an introvert. She occasionally has trouble following conversations, particularly conversations with more than one person. It is important that there be very little or no background noise or her ability to comprehend deteriorates and she may lose interest in the conversation. In large groups, she tends to listen instead of interacting with others. She is generally not good with answering questions on the fly or with “debates.” Someone who plays “gotcha” games or feels the need to lecture about topics RENA has no interest in may find that she does not even bother to make “I’m listening” noises when they speak, and she will eventually wander off while that person continues to harangue.

RENA’S sense of humor involves miscommunication humor, puns, sarcasm and satire. Slapstick humor and the more absurdist forms of humor where embarrassment, cruelty or humiliation plays a role are disliked intensely. RENA generally feels deeply embarrassed when other people do foolish things and this extends to most sit-com humor. RENA’S humor is often extremely subtle and based in word play, satire and exaggeration for effect.

RENA is LIBERAL by inclination. SEXIST, RACIST, ABLEIST and other DISCRIMINATORY jokes and comments will not be tolerated. She is also PAGAN by preference, though she has no formal practice. She is a SKEPTIC who enjoys reading about other religions.

RENA generally prefers reading to watching television as a form of entertainment. She leans toward science fiction, fantasy and some horror. She does not like slasher films because they are predictable, boring, gross and unscary. She likes animated films and tv shows more than she like live action. She is a very finicky reader and even more finicky watcher.

RENA likes to cook but prefers to be asked instead of told.

FUNCTIONS

RENA is a freelance writer. She would like to Break Into the Field of Creative Writing but has not found a Market. (Or a story or a plot.) Her current writing niche is book, manga and anime reviews by preference. She occasionally writes about relationships, writing, social justice and other topics. She also engages in Affiliate Marketing and other Entrepreneurial projects that are not nearly as successful as she would like them to be. She is a RECENT GRADUATE of a Graphic Web Design Program. She has not found work yet in that field, which is somewhat frustrating since there are a number of Deadlines hanging over her head.

RENA is motivated by constructive criticism and feedback. She may argue with constructive criticism or even be upset by it but she will generally adopt whatever makes sense to her. She occasionally lacks confidence in her writing ability and becomes discouraged if something does not come out perfectly the first time. She generally enjoys working on projects where she can work by herself at her own pace. If in a group, she will generally be the one trying to keep track of what everyone else is doing. (She will also be annoyed if you do not do the thing you agreed to on time.) She is not very good at brainstorming, but will often come up with an idea after the fact. She tends to ask questions several times to make sure she understands something. She often seems to expect to receive every possible variation for something that might go wrong.

Keeping these instructions in mind will ensure that RENA model 2012 (semi-employed) will be  in good working condition for as long as the warranty lasts.
