Manga Review: Kamisama Kiss Volume Eleven, Julietta Suzuki

Buy on Amazon.Volume eleven of Kamisama Kiss opens with a slight misunderstanding concerning weddings! Nanami agrees to perform a wedding at the shrine contingent on Tomoe’s approval. Manga Review: Kamisama Kiss Volume Ten, Julietta Suzuki

Buy on AmazonIn Kamisama Kiss volume ten, Nanami helps Kurama solve the succession crisis brewing at Mount Kurama. Since Nanami cannot enter the male-only environment of Mount Kurama, she disguises herself as a boy tengu, while Kurama poses as a tochigami, thanks to Nanami’s “substitute tochigami” ofuda. (It is effective enough that Kurama is able to order Tomoe to act like a cat.) The plan is for Kurama and Tomoe to distract Jiro, while Nanami and Botanmaru go looking for Sojobo, Kurama’s father. Manga Review: Kamisama Kiss Volume Nine, Julietta Suzuki

Kamisama Kiss Volume Nine opens with Tomoe asking what Nanami and Mikage had been talking about. Since they had been talking about Tomoe, Nanami is understandably evasive. Next we see that the convention has come to a close. Okuninushi, the kami of the shrine where the convention took place tells Nanami that she did a good job. Nanami takes the opportunity to ask Okuninushi if it is wrong for a human and a yokai to be in love. Okuninushi tells her that if the relationship is something that can end if he says “no,” then their relationship wouldn’t have lasted very long to begin with. (Nanami also asks about the competition that had been arranged between her and Kayako. Okininushi assures Nanami that he actually admires Kayako very much, and intends to visit her!) Manga Review: Kamisama Kiss Volume Eight, Julietta Suzuki

In Volume Eight of Kamisama Kiss, Nanami finds herself in the land of the dead. She’s told by the kami in charge of the land of the dead that she is free to leave, but the human who came with her must stay. The kami also lets Nanami know that the “human” is in fact a demon hiding out inside a human body. (The kami of the underworld however does not identify the demon, who is Akura-oh.) Nanami is therefore extremely clueless and does not know that the demon inhabiting Kirihito is actually kind of homicidal, so she decides to stay in the underworld to rescue him. Continue reading

Manga Review: Kamisama Kiss Volume Seven, Julietta Suzuki

In Kamisama Kiss volume seven, Nanami eventually goes to the kamuhakari, though the first few chapters are taken up by side adventures. The volume opens with Mizuki attempting to go to school with Tomoe and Nanami. When his attempt is less than successful, Mizuki decides to go visit Kurama in the big city. The urban environment however is a little too much for him, though he manages to do a good deed for an aspiring actress. (The good deed will probably not make up for the part where Mizuki decided to take the shrine’s offerings with him when he went on his little road trip.)  Continue reading

Manga Review: Kamisama Kiss Volume Six, Julietta Suzuki

In volume six of Kamisama Kiss, Nanami is recovering from the festival and the Kagura dance she performed. While Tomoe is ragging on Nanami for being so weak and worn out, the mysterious person who “tested” Nanami in the previous volume makes an appearance. It turns out that the mysterious stranger is a wind kami named Otohikogami, and he was a friend of Mikage.

It turns out that Otohikogami is testing Nanami’s worthiness to attend a special conference for kami called the Kamuhakari. He says that he has set up a competition between Nanami and another “human kami” a powerful psychic named Kayako Hiragi. However, neither Nanami nor Tomoe are interested in this contest or the conference, even when Otohikogami indicates that someone at the Kamuhakari might know where Mikage went. Continue reading
